If you want to shift some excess weight you need to have a diet plan of some kind.  You only need to take a look online or at the bookshelves in your local bookshop to see just how many different options there are in this sense.

In reality though, it can pay dividends just to make some sensible changes to your diet in order to start losing weight.  Changing your habits is the first big step towards making a big difference in your life.

Cut down on the amount of fat you eat

We all know that eating too much fat isn’t good for you.  But you shouldn’t cut it out of your diet altogether.  We do all need some fat to keep our bodies working well, so don’t feel you should completely deprive yourself.

You can still make sensible choices though, such as switching to skimmed milk from full fat milk.  It might take some getting used to but it will make a difference.  Think about getting leaner meat and not eating the skin off the roast chicken either.  Small changes all add up to big results in the end.

Are you getting your five a day?

Are you eating enough fruit and vegetables?  If you aren’t eating five different portions a day then the answer is no.  This alone can make you feel noticeably healthier and you will be amazed at how easy it is to do.

One tomato or one apple for instance – these both count as a single portion.  Have a look online to see what amounts of other fruits and vegetables count as a portion.  And if you enjoy a glass of fruit juice in the morning you can count that as one portion as well!

Get more exercise as well as eating smaller meals more often

Most of us are used to eating three meals a day and trying not to snack in between.  But this isn’t always the way our bodies want to work.

You may well find you feel hungry more often than at mealtimes.  There is nothing wrong with this in actual fact – it is simply your body telling you that you need to eat something.

So instead of eating a huge meal three times a day, cut right back and only eat a small amount to get rid of your hunger whenever you need it.  It will feel strange avoiding your usual mealtimes at first, but you will soon see you can really benefit from doing this.

The trick here is to think about making lots of small changes over time.  This is the best way to come up with a good diet plan to lose weight.  Don’t try doing them all at once or you might find it too much to stick to.  By taking small steps you will get bigger results.
